New HCi3 Grants Accelerate Clean Transportation
HCi3 has made four grant awards in support of clean transportation in HRM/Kjipuktuk as part of its 2024 granting program. HCi3 funds projects that lead to greenhouse gas emissions reductions while also contributing to social equity, reconciliation, and community benefit.
These grants were made under two streams: the “partnership” stream, which awards up to $75,000 to projects that help build or strengthen partnerships that promote local climate action; and the “catalyst” stream, which provides up to $10,000 in seed funding for new initiatives.
Partnership Grant Awards:
Communauto has been awarded $75,000 to support charging infrastructure for new electric vehicles joining its carsharing fleet this fall.
Tour De East Coast will receive $75,000 to support an electric bike-sharing pilot program at the Ivany Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College.
Catalyst Grant Awards:
Dalhousie University Faculty of Management received $2,500 towards the Climate Voices Initiative to explore climate awareness and activism within underrepresented communities, including looking at awareness and usage of community-based EV chargers.
Halifax Cycling Coalition and Nova Scotia by Bike received $5,000 to support workshops on bike maintenance and “urban” (<10Km) and “adventure” (>20 km) guided bike rides to boost cyclists’ confidence in taking trips within the city and beyond.
HCi3’s grant program is open on a rolling basis, inviting applicants to submit expressions of interest at any time during the year as long as funds are available. All HCi3’s grants can be viewed on our website.
This program is made possible through generous funding from the Government of Canada, Province of Nova Scotia, and the McConnell Foundation.
