HCi3 Awards Accelerating to Zero Grants to Support Local Climate Action

Date: 06/20/23

HCi3 announced its 2023 Accelerating to Zero grants today to support 14 projects across the Halifax Regional Municipality (Kjipuktuk) that focus on greenhouse gas emissions reductions and demonstrate a commitment to equity and community benefits.

This is HCi3’s second year offering grants to support climate initiatives in Halifax/Kjipuktuk, bringing the total projects supported to 25. Halifax is a leader in climate action thanks to the innovation, commitment and capabilities of those in our communities. We’re excited to support the excellent projects brought forward by these organizations. This year, our grants are funding projects that range from clean transportation, such as pop-up bike hubs, electrification of HRM’s ferries and e-scooters for students, to solar-powered community gardens and re-usable CO2 processing for breweries.

The Accelerating to Zero grant program provides grants of up to $50,000 to innovative projects that help Halifax/Kjipuktuk move towards an inclusive net-zero future by 2050.  HCi3 takes a “multi-solving” approach, seeking to advance a low carbon transition while also contributing to social equity, reconciliation, and community benefit. See the list of 2023 Grant Recipients here.

This program is made possible through generous funding from the Government of Canada, Province of Nova Scotia and the McConnell Foundation.
